Every year at this time we begin to obsess about this year's Christmas theme. Most years we opt for a classic look but other years we have been inspired by color and/or current events and/or pop culture. The year the United States Supreme Court ruled in favor of marriage equality for all, we embraced a #LoveWins Christmas and decorated everything rainbow including our Christmas Tree.
When Frozen first came out, our children were quite young and quite taken with all things Frozen. So of course we hosted a Frozen theme Christmas party and all donned family matching Frozen Ugly Christmas Sweaters. That year we chose a whimsical sky blue Christmas tree and decorated with darling Hot Topic Frozen themed ornaments.
So this year, now that our children are a bit older, it is finally time to introduce them to Harry Potter. Our plan is to dedicate our entire Christmas vacation family read aloud time to tackling the first book of the Harry Potter series, Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone. And hopefully, by the time we are finished, the whole family will be hooked on the series and be anxious to plow through the next six books.
Harry Potter Christmas Decor
We plan to bring the experience to life by making this Christmas a very merry Harry Potter Christmas. Although we do not have every single detail planned out yet, we are once again turning to Hot Topic to bring our vision to life. We have already bought this Christmas tree shaped a bit like a sorting hat and will decorate it with these darling Harry Potter Ornaments. And we could not believe our luck to also find this great Marauder's Map Fleece-lined tree skirt. We promise, once we have the tree all set up and decorated, we will post pics :).
And our front door must absolutely sport a matching Harry Potter Crest Christmas wreath!
Food & Drink
Although we probably will not serve this for our main Christmas dinner, we are thinking Christmas Eve might be the perfect night for cooking up some Kreachers's French Onion Soup and serving it individually in this fabulous cauldron soup mug!
Fun & Games
Over the years we have learned that the more family activities we have planned in advance the less likely individual meltdowns will occur. Much like our children's birthday party philosophy, we prefer keeping things simple. So we plan to have a few game tables set up throughout the house with one strictly devoted to jigsaw puzzles. Interestingly, we have found that for some reason the kids seem to talk much more openly while we are all working a puzzle. Similarly we have instituted a monthly family game night just to make sure we carve out time all year long for family memory making.
Harry Potter Christmas Pajamas
And finally, it would not be Christmas without family holiday pajamas. This year they of course need to be Harry Potter themed and we will probably throw in some slippers and maybe even a robe or two.
Oh wow! check out these themed pillowcases! So cute!
Wishing you a very joyful and festive holiday season!
Party Hearty (and safely)!
