Our latest obsession is GreatGets.com's Daily Halloween Costume Series. We don't follow many sites religiously but we have been loving the creativity of the costume ideas and GreatGets.com‘s spot on pulse on trends. We are also enjoying the diversity of their posts. Yesterday they featured three great wear-again plus size costumes including our favorite Morton Salt Girl costume for under $30.00. We especially like that they are willing to spend time and do their research. Since their goal was to assemble a cute teen costume for under $30.00, rather than taking the easy path and turning to traditional costume sites like HalloweenCostumes.com, instead they found a dresses on sale on sale at Modcloth and then created a costume around the dress. We also really like both the Rose Fairy costume and their version of a Great Gatsby Roaring '20s Garden Party Costume. The best part is that you really can wear all three dresses again without feeling you are wearing your Halloween costume. We guess that's what makes these costumes great gets!
Since there has been such an outpouring of delight with our Great Gatsby Roaring 20's inspired Halloween costumes, we are delighted to bring you some fresh roaring 20s party dresses which would be perfect for an elegant Gatsby inspired New Year's Eve Party. All of these dresses are reasonably priced. In fact the Anna-Kaci flapper dresses are all priced well under $50.00, the only rub being that Anna-Kaci dresses are pretty much designed for small gals. So if you are average or plus sized be sure to check out Modcloth – they offer a wide range of sizes from extra small to 4x. Continue Reading →
Wear Outfits, Not Costumes
Just today we received an email from Shopstyle announcing that outfits rather than costumes are 2015's hottest Halloween trend. We wanted to scream – told you so! Every Halloween we feature real life clothes that can be dressed up for Halloween and then worn again throughout the year.
For example a must own little black dress like the one featured below, and available in sizes xs – 4x, can be paired with black cat bags, headbands, shoes, jewelry and cat face paint. And then after Halloween you can continue to wear the dress and all the accessories, just not all together.

It is always a challenge to find budget friendly special occasion outfits. If you are anything like us, we really, really dislike spending lots of money on a dress that will have limited wear yet we do not want to sacrifice style and fit – basically we want to party pretty! So today we are featuring zulily, our go to shop for fabulous women's clothing finds at affordable prices.
Halloween is one of those days that we always have trouble spending money on ourselves. We have no problem buying a costume for the kids but hate to spend anything on those hot itchy polyester (read plastic) Halloween costumes for one, sure to be uncomfortable, night out. Instead, we much prefer finding a fabulous (but inexpensive) dress that we can transform into a costume for the night but whip out again for another evening on the town. This ivory ruffle dress (
$223 $39.99) fits both those criteria. Pair it with a black boa, Long Satin Gloves, a Costume Cigarette Holder, a flapper wig or headband or hat, flapper beads / pearls and these great flapper style Mary Jane black patent pumps ( $42.00 $24.99) for Halloween and you are now donning a fabulous Great Gatsby Roaring 20's costume. Next summer pull it out and wear it again with a pair of sandals already in your closet and you have a second outfit for no added expense. Now that's what we call a great get!
Likewise, this Midnight Blue Rosette Bubble Dress by Samuel Dong, originally priced at $423.00 is available on zulily for just $89.99 and is quite the find. Not only is it is an extraordinary holiday party dress but is also perfect for any New Year's eve party, most winter weddings, and even a special occasion dinner. The color is rich and vibrant and the intricate rosette detailing makes for a posh statement piece. Pair it with sparkly black heels (
$130.00 $24.99) and you are set to go – no jewelry necessary.
Total savings on these 4 pieces from zulily: $818.00 (original prices) – $179.96 (zulily prices) = $638.04 (a whopping 78% savings)

Full of glitz, glamour, ornate details, and a true style all its own – what girl wouldn't want “The Great Gatsby” look? Whether you are planning a casual Gatsby themed garden party, fabulous, glamorous cocktail evening, or even attending a Great Gatsby costume viewing party, there are plenty of ways to add a flapper-esque flair to any look with the 1920s fashion inspired dresses and accessories over at ModCloth.
- Details, details, details. Epaulets, pearls, rhinestones, and sequins were highly used during this time period to add glitz to an evening outfit.
- Slender silhouettes. While you could still see a full skirt, long hemline, and high neck, the robe de style dress featuring a drop waist and straight cut was the most popular style.
- Haute headpieces. To top off the entire look, add a whimsical & decadent headpiece from ModCloth. You can even DIY a fabulous headband with ribbon, feathers, and gemstones!
