Plan a Soup Swap Party
Another who woulda thunk it moment! January 18th (the 3rd Saturday of January) is this year's National Annual Soup Swap Day. We originally read about this creative party idea in Sara McColl's Yahoo article entitled “The Only Party Invitation We Want This Time of Year” . I guess it should not surprise anyone that we were intrigued. A winter party theme that is easy to organize, allows you to keep your weight loss / get healthy resolutions, has very little cost associated with it. And best of all you get to go home with one of the best party favors ever – 6 quarts of delicious soups, enough for dinner for a week.
And even if you missed the official soup swap day, no worries. As far as we are concerned any day can be soup swap day.

We recently stumbled upon a DIY gift idea involving baking mini banana breads in ball mason jars (lightly oil the jars and only fill batter about half way up). We liked almost everything about the project except the bedraggled cloth tied to the lids – it cheapened the entire look and not surprisingly, we believed we could find a way to make a good idea even better >> hence, Cheap Chic Holiday Gifts – Cupcakes in a Glass Bell Jar !
As usual, however, when we begin obsessing about a project, we never quite know the direction our research will take us. This time we got sidetracked and quickly became enamored with these featured wonderful Miniature Glass Bell Jars with White Fluted Base. How great would it be to add an adorable holiday cupcake wrapper to create a festive, chic and expensive looking little gift of thanks. It would be especially cute if you used the Merry & Bright Cupcake Kit, The Nutcracker Cupcake Kit, The Twelve Days of Christmas Cupcake Kit, or create more of a non-denominational winter wonderland look using the damask light blue patterned cupcake wrappers (perfect for teacher gifts!)
OMG – now that we are thinking of it these would make fabulous party favors for just about any celebration. For Thanksgiving make pumpkin cupcakes and decorate them with the Turkey with Hats Cupcake Kit. For baby showers think Peter Rabbit, Animal Parade, and vintage baby cupcake wrappers. And how perfect are these glass bell jars for a chic Paris Party!
Buy the glass jars in bulk (they are cheaper that way) and store them away for whenever you need a cheap but chic little gift of thanks.
Memorial Day is just around the corner but there is still plenty of time to order a few extras to add a festive touch to your party and you don't need to spend a fortune to do so. We love the little mason jar sippers with red and blue striped straws. Glass bowls filled with red, white and blue jelly belly and m & m candies are fun, easy and inexpensive. Good looking paper plates and napkins are always essential. Throw a few small vases filled with swirl pops and patriotic pretzels around the room intermixed with this simple fresh flower arrangement (ok – we admit, no matter how great our decor, it never seems quite complete unless we have at least one vase of fresh flowers). Patriotic cupcake kits make yummy cupcakes taste even better. How fun would it be to send your guests home with individual bottles of “Hot & Proud” hot sauce which also add a bit of sass to your table settings. And finally, red and blue ribbons remind us of the meaning of Memorial Day.
