Box Costumes

Rubik's Cube Costume

I just saw this costume on the Today show and thought, wow — easy and fun!  You can create it using one box or three boxes askew, solved or unsolved, large or small, with arm holes or without.  Wear tights or black pants underneath.  You can get as fancy as you want.  If you have truly waited until the last minute — simply spray paint your boxes black with quick drying paint.  During the 15 minutes it takes for the paint to dry completely, cut out your  squares of colored paper.  Now glue or tape them to box(es) being sure to leave space between the squares so it appears they are outlined in black.   If you don't have boxes at home your local postal store or office supply store  generally stock boxes.   If you don't have a paper cutter or glue gun consider investing in one for the next time! What to Wear to a Great Gatsby Roaring 20s Theme Party

Great Gatsby Roaring 20s Inspired Clothing

Full of glitz, glamour, ornate details, and a true style all its own – what girl wouldn't want “The Great Gatsby” look? Whether you are planning a casual Gatsby themed garden party, fabulous, glamorous cocktail evening, or even attending a Great Gatsby costume viewing party, there are plenty of ways to add a flapper-esque flair to any look with the 1920s fashion inspired dresses and accessories over at ModCloth.

  • Details, details, details. Epaulets, pearls, rhinestones, and sequins were highly used during this time period to add glitz to an evening outfit.
  • Slender silhouettes. While you could still see a full skirt, long hemline, and high neck, the robe de style dress featuring a drop waist and straight cut was the most popular style.
  • Haute headpieces. To top off the entire look, add a whimsical & decadent headpiece from ModCloth. You can even DIY a fabulous headband with ribbon, feathers, and gemstones!

The Great Gatsby Movie Viewing & Costume Party

The Great Gatsby Movie Viewing & Costume Party is our of our all time favorite themes! We absolutely love Great Gatsby themed Costume Parties.   Not surprisingly, costumes are required.  I always get flack from my husband when I suggest he simply wear a suit and hat.  After much conjoling, I finally persuade him to don a dapper classic tuxedo like the one worn by Leonardo DiCaprio in the poster.   Done!

An even harder problem is what should I wear?  So many options but I particularly love the very reasonably priced Anna-Kaci flapper dresses on Amazon.  To complete the outfits order a coordinating boaLong Satin Gloves, a Costume Cigarette Holder, a flapper wig or headband or hat, and flapper beads / pearls.

Halloween Silly Bandz

Skip the candy!  Pass out Halloween Bandz to all your trick or treaters.  Great for Halloween classroom parties and as costume accessories, too!

What are bandz?

The bandz craze seems to have begun in Birmingham Alabama last year and now bandz are flying off shelves throughout the country. These colorful rubber bands are made of silicone and die molded, come in a variety of shapes and themes, and are manufactured by a handful of vendors. Basically, kids wear them, collect them, and trade them! Bandz come in multi-band packs starting at about $5.00/pack. Best of all, Bandz make for great party favors and napkin rings! (Warning: Choking Hazard! Not recommended for children under 3 years old!) Continue Reading →
